The Faculty of
Joint Forces Staff College

Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS)

The faculty of the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) consists of senior officers with joint experience from all Services and civilian professors. In addition to this highly qualified staff, students have multiple occasions to meet and discuss issues with active and retired flag/general officers and Ambassadors. Retired flag/general officers and Ambassadors, as Senior Fellows, are an integral part of the faculty and are a key element of the learning experience within the collaborative seminar. Additionally, the school employs several distinguished academics and a variety of subject matter experts throughout the course in the role of guest speaker and as a participant in seminar forums, formally and informally.

Joint Combined Warfighting School (JCWS)

The faculty of the Joint Combined Warfighting School (JCWS) consists of O-4s to O-6s from all Services with joint experience and civilian instructors/professors. In addition to this highly qualified staff, students have multiple occasions to meet and discuss issues with active and retired flag/general officers and Ambassadors. These retired flag/general officers and Ambassadors (Senior Fellows) are an integral part of the seminar and are a key element of the learning experience. Additionally, the school employs several distinguished academics and a variety of subject matter experts throughout the course in the role of guest speaker and as a participant in seminar forums, formally and informally.

The Joint Command, Control and Information Operations School (JC2IOS)

The Joint Command, Control and Information Operations School (JC2IOS) faculty consists of a broad variety highly trained military specialists as well as experienced planners and operators. Chosen from each of the four military services, this diverse team teaches students the necessary planning skills to support Combatant and Joint Task Force Commanders. Additionally, students are exposed to a variety of DoD and non-DoD military and civilian subject-matter-experts from outside the school. These guest lecturers also come to the school with highly diverse backgrounds in Information Operations (IO) and Command, Control, Communication, Computers and Intelligence (C4I).

Joint Continuing Distance Education School (JCDES)

The JCDES faculty consists of officers (O5 and above) from the Reserve Component of each Service including the Air and Army Guard. JCDES faculty members are full time support, are graduates of JPME II or AJPME, most have operational experience and have completed a rigorous Distance Education Certification from either the University of Wisconsin or University of Maryland, enabling them to facilitate exceptional online instruction and collaboration.

In addition to this highly qualified staff, the students, while in residence, are able to interact with senior fellows. Senior fellows are retired flag/general officers or high-ranking Department of State officials augmenting the curriculum to provide insight and exchange views with students during the development of their theater strategy and as a course review after the final exercise. Students meet with an Ambassador in F2F-1 and a retired Flag/General Officer in F2F-2. Additionally, during the F2F blocks, AJPME students may take advantage of “targets of opportunity”—high-ranking civilian and military leaders who visit JFSC to share their insights.
