The mission of Joint Forces Staff College is to educate military officers and other national security leaders in joint, multinational, and interagency operational-level planning and warfighting, to instill a primary commitment to joint, multinational, and interagency teamwork, attitudes, and perspectives. Our institution is one of four colleges within the National Defense University (NDU). The four schools within JFSC focus on educating military officers and other leaders in matters relating to the operational-level of warfare. Our Joint and Continuing and Distance Education School offers a 40-week blended, distance/residence, course similar in content to our 10-week resident program offered by our Joint and Combined Warfighting School. Our Joint Advanced Warfighting School offers an 11-month, resident, masters degree awarding, course and our Joint Command, Control, and Information Operations School offers short specialized instruction for communicators and information operations staff officers.
As part of our continuous improvement efforts, we are developing partnerships with select higher education institutions that provide educational services to our graduates assigned to military higher headquarters locations worldwide. Our goal is to encourage our graduates to maximize the higher educational experiences gained in our environment by pursuing masters or terminal degrees in areas that are mutually advantageous for them and the Department of Defense. Among the specific programs of study our graduates choose are International Relations, Business, Strategic Planning, History, Regional Study, or Urban Planning.
