On February 6, 2007, the Bush Administration announced the creation of a new U.S. Africa Command to coordinate all U.S. military and security interests throughout the continent. The new command began operating October 1, 2007 from a base in Germany and will be gradually brought to full capacity during the next year. The following items published in recent years discuss many of the challenges facing Africa and the new Africa Command. Other books and journals located in the Ike Skelton Library collection facilitate the understanding of many issues facing Africa including terrorism, economic assistance, governance, democratization, and social conditions.
