The JFSC uses the most current version of Windows as its primary operating system. Many applications are standard for all JFSC computers. The Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications offers Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint to handle word processing, spreadsheets, database manipulation, and slide presentations. Students are provided with a Microsoft Outlook profile; Microsoft Internet Explorer is installed on College computers to give students access to the Internet. Additionally, JFSC offers WinZip to compress and decompress large files. Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on all computers to permit reading and printing of .pdf files; a full version of Adobe Acrobat is available for use in the Customer Service area (third floor), allowing .pdf files to be created and modified.
Students have 24-hour, 7-day access to Normandy Hall, our main building on campus. Each seminar is assigned four computers to be shared by all students. There is no dial-up access to our network, but we do have remote email access for students who have their own access to the Internet.
We have the appropriate devices to access the following types of electronic media:
- CDs, including CD-Rs and CD-RWs
- DVDs – all computers have capability for viewing DVDs
- 3.5" floppy disks
- Iomega 100 and 250 Zip disks
- Flash media (thumb drives)
