Background

Electives permit students to conduct in-depth study of an issue or issues they find particularly useful or intriguing during their education at the Joint Forces Staff College. The studies are taught each week on Wednesday mornings by members of the faculty, adjuncts from the local area, and regional guest speakers. Students who are beginning an assignment to NATO or one of the Combatant Commands (have completed 6 months or less of their joint/multinational duty assignment) are required to select the corresponding Electives, i.e., if heading to CENTCOM, you will be required to take the CENTCOM Electives. Assignments to Electives are NOT made during the registration process. Elective assignments are usually made on Wednesday of the first week of class after registration is complete and all students have been notified of the closing of registration process. Some listed Electives may not be offered for the time period that you are attending JCWS. See the registration page for the listing of classes offered.
