Napoleon
observed in the early 1800’s that an Army marches on its stomach. He not only
created the staff design we operate from today but he also understood the
need to supply armies in order to make it the most efficient machine it could
be. Instead of relying upon foraging, which works well for a small force, he
determined that the levee en masse (the first large citizen army of
France) required a fully organized support system to keep large armies in the
field and prepared to fight. In our
planning processes today we continue that same methodology.
